5 tips to prepare for your next content shoot

Do you have an upcoming content shoot or are considering doing so? Don’t let it overwhelm you. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the day and shoot amazing content.

Why should you do a content shoot?

Going that extra mile & doing a shoot can take your business to the next level.

Although using stock imagery can be useful at for ad-hoc social media posts, emails and websites, creating your own content and imagery ensures your brand identity aligns with your vision & brand personality.

1. First, spend time understanding the business strategy and what this means for the marketing objectives. Then, select clear content pillars that relate to these objectives and deliver content that’s tailored to the target audience! Be sure to check in with who you’re working with throughout the journey to ensure you’re aligned.


2. Fail to prepare, prepare to fail. After you’ve got your strategy down, make a list of all the types of content you’ll need. Be creative and think about how you’ll use the content. For example, will you need to get landscape and portrait shots? What about photos for stories, videos for reels and background images for laying on text? Have this list with you at all times and refer back to it during the shoot.


3. Think about lighting and aim to shoot at a time of day that will provide natural light.


4. If shooting videos on your phone, make sure your camera is filming in high resolution. You can check this on an iPhone by clicking on settings > scroll to camera > record video > select 4K at 30fps / 60fps.


5. Get your equipment ready - make sure your phone is charged, that your camera is working, bring additional lighting, props, charging cables and anything you may need.
