Q&A with Lujain

For this Q&A, we’re speaking to Lujain Alhassan, intern at Chickpea Marketing.

We chatted to Lujain about her current role as a Nutritionist and why she’s interested in marketing, as well as the benefits of interning.

Corrine (C): Can you please tell us a bit about you and your current job?

Lujain (L): I am a nutritionist with at both Phoenix Health and SemaPen, sister companies specialising in bariatric care and weight loss solutions. At Phoenix Health, I provide nutritional guidance and support to patients before undergoing bariatric surgery. At SemaPen, I focus on assisting patients with GLP-1 injections, particularly Wegovy, educating them about the treatment and monitoring their progress.

In addition to nutrition, I also Lead SemaPen’s marketing strategy, for both Paid and Organic Marketing. I also work closely with Corrine at Chickpea Marketing, where I get a chance to do brand research, content creation and socials!

C: How did you get into your area of work?

L: I have always loved nutrition, but while I was at uni I realised that food and drink marketing is also really important. I became facinated with how brands market themselves in a sustainable but informative way, without making false claims. With the large amount of misinformation about nutrition, marketing can be a really essential tool to help inform and educate people on evidence-based choices.

C: If you could provide one tip for someone looking to learn more or gain more experience, what would that be? Would you recommend internships and why?

L: Definitely! Internships are a great way of learning more about a specific field or job role, and can be a great asset when it comes to showcasing your experience. I would definitely recommend networking and stepping out of your comfort zone, approaching people who interest you or people you would love to work with!

C: What are you most excited about in your work at the moment?

L: Definitely the development of GLP-1s in the weight loss field, with so much research emerging I think they might be the future of weight management.

C: Can you tell us about a food and drink brand or organisation that has impressed you recently and why?

L: I’m a big fan of Innocent! I think their marketing strategy is brilliant because they use relatable humor. It's a new approach on marketing that's prompting more Gen-Z style copy.

C: Do you have a favourite chickpea containing snack or meal?

L: Definitely hummus! You can’t go wrong with hummus and pita :)
